BENELLI M2. It is hard to call a $1400 or so plastic-stocked camo shotgun a bargain. Nevertheless, the Benelli M2 camo ComforTech 20 gauge 24 inch is a personal favorite. It wasn't simply perfect by any means. I intentionally broke off the center bead and threw it away, so the front bead could actually be seen. I've seen some great tuned Benelli M2 deals here on BE for ~$1800 or so, but it looks like I can get a a Franchi Affinity 3.0 tuned for ~$1300. One other difference is the forearm is slimmer on the m2, but I have zero issues with the forearm on the affinity. Both are high quality guns. On a side note I own a 870 compact as well and I consider it to be one of the best turkey guns made.

The Benelli will fire anything down to 1 oz target loads in the 12 gauge and 7/8 oz in the 20 gauge with absolutely no problems. If that's what you consider "low base", then you have nothing to worry about. In my opinion, while the Affinity is a good gun, the Benelli M2 is a better gun. The stock on the Affinity feels like cheap plastic to me. The grip-tight stock on the M2 is much better for duck hunting. As you said, you have an itch for a Benelli.
