BG3 being a video game with saves, that is a non-issue. It acts as a very powerful striker who doesn't lose all that much in accuracy either and will annihilate groups of low and medium AC opponents with no issue, and for fights against enemies with a ton of AC you can just deactivate GWM attacks if it makes you too inaccurate there.

I don't know how to read the BG3 text in a way that doesn't mean "A versatile weapon held in one hand does not benefit from dueling," as a conscious call out to being different than normal 5e rules. However, when I wield a longsword and shield and hit something, the combat log does indeed say that 2 damage is being added from dueling.
The description of effect is misleading. Like the Duelling fighting style, the bonus from these gloves is active even if you have a shield in your offhand, as long as you do not have a weapon in your offhand. It is also deactivated if using a versatile weapon alone (in 2-hand mode), but is active if wielding a versatile weapon alongside a shield.
