_{Right-- no one here said either the national society of collegiate scholars or the National society of HS scholars were "scams". I'll say it - NSCS and NSHSS are scams. The primary purpose of these organizations is to line the pockets of those who created/work for them, and they do this by taking advantage of the naivete of young students.Recently have been invited to the NSCS after they supposedly got information of my GPA for the Fall Quarter and now have been invited to be a part of their program. Just wanted to know if this (or any "collegiate scholars" program) is worth the $100 dollars they are asking of me. Nope. It’s a pretty well-known scam.To provide a bit of context, NSHSS is not a scam, but it's also not as prestigious as other organizations like the National Honor Society (NHS).Its not legally a scam but it doesnt do anything for you. The $95 you gets gets you a plastic card telling you you're a member and some mail that comes later. It is completely not worth it. I'm just in my school's national honor society.

Talk to a faculty member. If you aren't sure whether an honor society is legitimate or not, ask a teacher or advisor. They'll know which organizations are credible, have chapters at your school, and are active. They'll also have an idea of the best ones to join. Review testimonials and success stories.

The money from the membership fees is supposed to go toward scholarships and funds for the society to have events.
