My guess is that Sig would have discontinued the model entirely had it not been for the French Government contract.
The SP2022 is definitely not an entry level pistol. When they first came out they were close to $700!! However the SP2022 never was a good seller to the general market other than the massive 250,000 unit French contract. The SP2022 has been discontinued at least once before.

Not only has the P225 A1 been deleted but the M-11 (formerly the P228) is also on the way out. You can find it on a search in the search box, but otherwise it is on its way out. The M17/M-18 has replaced it.
