Greek έλεος (Eleos) - is a pity, mercy, and compassion itself. We adopted this name, because at the root of our open air are just deeds of mercy.
Open Air was born as an idea to commemorate the first anniversary of the events in Kiev's Maidan and Dignity Revolution in Ukraine. It was made as an acknowledge-ment for manifesting a mercy itself at that time, by each charity through different states and nationalities, churches and religion, as well as by dedicated, single, ordinary people. The first meeting has proved to be so fruitful, that we decided to develop the idea and continue organizing the next event
Idea of open air
Thinking about what this meeting could be about, what fruits it will bring and what can be its purpose, we came to the conclusion that the open air should continue to handle issues related to mercy, as his name indicates. Mercy is very important to us. Apparently this is so that we realize how much it is necessary, only when we miss this experience. Life puts us in situations where Mercy is very necessary. One - to experience it, the other - to show it. The fundamental idea of open air will be so discovering, experiencing and showing mercy.
Guide
There is no better guide to the world of history shown by God's mercy, as the Bible. This book is an excellent manual discovery and learning what is Mercy. Moreover, the words of this unique Book have power of the Mercy itself, which can touch and make that we can experience Mercy. Therefore, the task of workshop participants is reaching out to the Bible as the original, the most important inspiration, the basic textbook ...
Icon
The purpose of the icon as a work of art will be striving to describe the Bible and included revelation in color, shape, graphic sign. Pass in a comprehensible way the truth, teaching, and moreover to attract to God, realising about his presence. For centuries iconographies recognize that what is painted on the icon, the recorded colors and images, is like the letter of the Bible and theology. Therefore, the aim of the workshop participants is to reconsider the paintings, inspired by the texts of the Bible, Lives of the Saints, Theology of the Treaties, as well as the response to the needs of contemporary art, contemporary message.
Community
No man is an alone island." It is difficult to discover the mercy in loneliness, isolation. It’s not difficult then to go the wrong way. Therefore the participants during the open air form a community. They work together, though each of your work individually. The presence of another human being is an opportunity to exchange experiences, conversations, learning, sharing, creative disputes ... The common prayer invites participants to their work of God, who promised his presence where two or three are gathered in His name. He also promised to listen to the two who together agree about anything they ask. Therefore, the time on the open air is a time of community, regardless of religion.
Mutual experience and showing mercy
In order to remain this not only as a theoretical consideration of mercy, but to experience it and learn, open air topics associated with the current situation in the world. The meeting is also to give a chance to these problems to be touched, stay on them, think about it. Therefore, to participate in the open airs are not only experienced artists invited, having already their achievements, workshop. We want to invite the artists for whom the studes of life led to different places, who are faced with difficulties, they have to overcome many obstacles ... We are concerned here especially for the people who happened to have problems such as alcoholism, drug abuse, sexual and internet addictions ... diseases such as AIDS, cancer or disability. Open Air has thus become a meeting where value is a man! Where the strong help the weaker, brave – shy, healthy - sick. Where a person experiences mercy and shows it.
Open Air work
The resulting work during the meeting, at the beginning create a thematic exhibition. Then their purpose is different. Some go to the hospitals, addiction treatment or therapeutic centers. Some work can be purchased and the income from sales is spent on printing a catalog of open air, maintenance of exhibitions, preparation of further retreats, workshops ... But we always take care of it, to work their way to decent, good places that somehow correspond to this work.
